Rajapur Bardiya road contractor Dhobinpur Puraina gravel

Residents of Rajapur Municipality in Bardiya are struggling on an unfinished road after the contractor building the Dhobinpur to Puraina road spread gravel over the surface and disappeared, Gorkhapatra reports.
Rajapur Municipality had signed the blacktopping contract with Yogeshwari Nirman Sewa of Banke on 8 Mangsir 2082 BS, with the work due to be completed by 20 Asar 2083 BS. Instead, the contractor scattered gravel haphazardly along the road and has done no work for the past six months, locals say, leaving pedestrians and vehicles to pick their way over the loose stone.
Municipal engineer Shankar Bhattarai told the paper that the work stalled as costs rose, and that in recent days the contractor has switched off his mobile phone and gone out of contact, so the remaining work cannot be pushed forward. He said the unfinished road also cannot progress because the contractor is unreachable.
Keshav Sharma of ward 8 said residents are forced to travel at risk while the construction remains incomplete, and ordinary people are suffering unnecessarily because the work was not finished on time. Netra Dhakal of Dhobinpur in ward 6 said the gravel was spread six months ago but never blacktopped, making the road difficult for both vehicles and people on foot.
With Dashain and Tihar travel raising traffic on the route, locals are demanding that the scattered gravel be managed and the construction work restarted immediately.
