The government has set a target of connecting the centres of all local levels across the country with paved roads within the next five years, according to a report published in Gorkhapatra on Friday, 16 October 2026.

The report sets out a province wise picture of the local road network and the remaining links needed so that every municipality and rural municipality centre can be reached by a blacktopped road. Local level centres that still depend on earthen or gravel tracks face the biggest access problems during the monsoon, when transport of goods, patients and students is regularly disrupted.

The paved road local level centres Nepal five years target means every municipality and rural municipality centre would be linked by a blacktopped road within the next five years.

Road access to local level centres is treated as a base condition for other development work, because schools, health facilities, markets and government services all depend on reliable transport. The five year target will require sustained budget allocation and timely completion of the many small road contracts that local and provincial governments award each year.

Eve Construction will follow the contract awards and progress reports that come out under this programme in the coming months.
