The Chobhar substation in the Kathmandu Valley is in the final phase of construction and is set to come into operation around Dashain, Gorkhapatra reported on 16 October 2026.

The substation is a 132/11 kV facility. Once charged, it will feed power into the valley distribution network from the 132 kV transmission system, strengthening supply for the southern part of the Kathmandu Valley.

New substations inside the valley are a central part of Nepal Electricity Authority efforts to cut technical losses, reduce feeder overloads and improve voltage quality for households and industry.

Energising a new substation involves staged testing and protection checks before load is transferred, and NEA typically issues public notices around the charging schedule for the areas concerned.
