NBC 205, NBC 206, NBC 208, and NBC 209 cover reinforced concrete frames, architectural requirements, and specialized masonry systems. Together they complete the NBC’s structural guidance for modern framed buildings and traditional masonry construction.
NBC 205 — Reinforced Concrete Buildings (2024)
NBC 205:2024 (125 pages) gives Mandatory Rules of Thumb for reinforced concrete buildings. It covers member sizing for beams, columns, and slabs, minimum reinforcement percentages, lap lengths, and ductile detailing — so RC frames resist earthquakes without full dynamic analysis for regular low-rise buildings.

NBC 206 — Architectural Design Requirements (2024)
NBC 206:2024 (37 pages) sets architectural rules that affect structural safety: building height limits, setbacks, room sizes, stair and exit requirements, and daylight/ventilation. Good architectural planning — compact shapes, regular grids — is the first step to earthquake safety.
NBC 208 & NBC 209 — Stone Masonry and Special Systems
NBC 208 addresses stone masonry construction — random rubble and dressed stone walls with through-stones, corner reinforcements, and bands adapted to stone. NBC 209 covers low-strength masonry systems and special provisions for vulnerable existing-type construction, with retrofit-friendly rules.
