1. Civil Engineer — Gazetted 3rd Class
For BE graduates entering the Nepal Engineering Service. Written: Paper I (100 MCQs, +1 / −0.2 negative marking) + Paper II (subjective, 10 × 10 marks, 3 hours) → Interview (30 marks). 9-unit technical syllabus, led by Structural Analysis & Design (20%).

2. Civil Sub-Engineer — Non-gazetted 1st Class
For diploma engineers — the classic overseer route into government service. Written: First Paper (objective — 25 × 2 general awareness & aptitude + 25 × 2 job-based knowledge = 100 marks) → Interview. 13-section technical syllabus: surveying, soil mechanics, hydraulics, structures, highways, irrigation, estimating, hydropower and more.

3. Assistant Sub-Engineer (Civil) — 4th Level
For field-supervision roles: measurement, estimates, muster rolls, site oversight. Job Based Knowledge (30 × 2 = 60 marks, MCQ) + subjective Paper II (Sections A & B, 50 + 50 marks). 7 practical units: drawing, estimating & supervision, survey, materials, construction technology, building services, local infrastructures.
