Caution Urged on Slippery New Narayanghat to Butwal Road Surface

Nawalpur, 14 Oct 2026. Drivers and traffic police are urging caution on the newly expanded and blacktopped Narayanghat to Butwal road section in Nawalpur district, Gandaki Province, which becomes slippery and poses risks to motorists.

The Narayanghat Butwal road, a vital east-west highway, has been widened and blacktopped, but the new surface becomes slippery, particularly in wet conditions. Drivers on the Narayanghat Butwal road have reported the surface feeling slick, prompting warnings from both motorists and traffic authorities who monitor the section daily.

Narayanghat Butwal Road Accident Figures

District Police Office figures, as reported by the district traffic police, highlight the dangers on the Narayanghat Butwal road. In the previous fiscal year, 107 accidents on this section killed 66 people and injured 105, of whom 25 were seriously injured. So far this year, Nawalpur alone has recorded 90 vehicle accidents and 19 deaths on the Narayanghat Butwal road, underscoring the urgent need for caution.

The figures, presented as reported by the district traffic police, show a concerning pattern. The high number of fatalities relative to accidents suggests the crashes are severe, likely due to speed and the slippery surface combining to reduce vehicle control. Traffic police attribute many incidents to drivers unfamiliar with the new surface characteristics of the Narayanghat Butwal road.

Warning Signs and Speed Control

The Road Division and police have put up warning signs along the slippery sections of the Narayanghat Butwal road and are running awareness efforts to educate drivers about the risks. Speed control is being discussed as a key measure, with authorities considering stricter enforcement to reduce the likelihood of skidding and loss of control on the smooth new blacktop.

Drivers are advised to reduce speed, maintain safe following distances, and exercise extra care during rain or when the road surface appears wet. The new blacktop on the Narayanghat Butwal road, while smoother, requires adjusted driving behaviour until motorists become familiar with its characteristics. Police recommend avoiding sudden braking and sharp turns on the slippery stretches.

The Narayanghat-Butwal road is a critical corridor for goods and passenger transport, connecting the eastern and western Terai. Ensuring safety on this route is essential for the region’s economy and the wellbeing of travellers who depend on this highway daily.
