Betrawati Bailey Bridge Installation to Finish in 5 Days, Rasuwa Link Reopens Before Dashain

The Betrawati Bailey bridge installation is set to be completed within the next five days, bringing the restoration of the flood-severed road link in Rasuwa district closer ahead of Dashain, Nepal’s biggest festival. Infrastructure Development Minister Sunil Lamsal shared the update on Facebook on October 5, 2026, noting that installation work at the Betrawati site is ongoing and on schedule.

The Bailey bridge is being installed to reconnect the road link that was cut off after floods in Rasuwa damaged crossings along the route. Betrawati lies on the corridor linking Galchhi to Rasuwa district, and the temporary crossing there is critical for restoring the regular movement of vehicles, goods and passengers.

According to the minister, the installation is progressing smoothly and should be completed within five days of the announcement. The government has been rushing emergency works in flood-affected districts to reopen damaged roads before the festive season.

Betrawati Bailey bridge installation nears completion

A Bailey bridge is a portable, prefabricated steel structure that can be assembled quickly, making it the standard solution for restoring flood-damaged crossings in Nepal’s hill districts. Once the remaining assembly and approach works are done, the structure is expected to carry traffic across the river at Betrawati.

Minister Lamsal, who has been overseeing flood and landslide rehabilitation works, said the opening of the temporary track from Galchhi to Betrawati has already been completed. The track will serve as the approach route to the bridge.

Galchhi to Betrawati link restores Rasuwa access

Once the installation is finished, transport will resume along the Galchhi to Betrawati corridor and onward to Dhunche and Syafrubesi in Rasuwa district. Dhunche is the district headquarters, while Syafrubesi is the gateway to the Langtang region and an important transit point for tourism and local trade.

For residents of Rasuwa, the reopening will end weeks of disrupted connectivity. Supplies, construction materials and emergency services will once again move freely, and businesses along the route can resume normal operations.

Reopening expected before Dashain

Dashain, Nepal’s biggest and most widely celebrated festival, begins in mid-October, and thousands of people travel to their home villages during the period. Restoring the road link before the festival matters for festival travel, as it will let passengers and essential supplies move in and out of Rasuwa without long detours.

If the five-day schedule holds, the Betrawati Bailey bridge installation will be finished well before the main festival days. Authorities are expected to confirm the exact reopening date once the installation passes final safety checks.
