Nepalgunj Gulariya postal highway Khajura blacktop nine years

About two kilometres of road at Khajura Bazaar in Banke, on the Nepalgunj to Gulariya Postal Highway, has finally been blacktopped, nine years after the first construction contract for the stretch was signed, Gorkhapatra reports.
The first contract was awarded in 2074 BS to Gajurmukhi Construction Company of Ilam. That contractor gravelled the road and left the work incomplete, and even after repeated deadline extensions the construction could not be finished. The Road Division Office Nepalgunj eventually cancelled the old contract, according to the Postal Highway Directorate’s project office in Nepalgunj.
Office chief Lilabahadur Bhandari said the plan was to widen the 1,800 metres of road through Khajura Bazaar to four lanes and surface it with asphalt blacktop. A new contract signed last Magh with Maitahawa-NT-Satellite JV, worth Rs 7,00,01,069, has now completed the blacktopping as agreed, he said.
The delay had forced travellers passing through Khajura Bazaar towards Nepalgunj to endure years of difficult journeys, with even the short distance taking a long time on the broken surface. Local resident Deepak Dhakal said people can now reach Nepalgunj in a short time. The stretch is considered important both for movement and for local trade in the Khajura Bazaar area.
