Melamchi drinking water is flowing to taps in the Kathmandu Valley again. Distribution, which had been shut for some months because of the monsoon flood and landslide risk at the headworks, resumed on Friday, Gorkhapatra reports.

Project officials said the water is brought to the treatment centre and supplied to consumers through Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited. The supply is traditionally halted during the rainy season, when the swelling Melamchi river turns heavily turbid and polluted, and restarted once the flow settles.

The resumption brings major relief to valley households, who had been forced to depend on expensive tanker and jar water while the Melamchi supply was shut.
