Kalika Homes Controversy: Viral TikTok Videos Allege Unfinished Houses and Unpaid Workers

The Kalika Homes controversy began with a three-part TikTok video series posted under the hashtag #kalikahomecontroversy that calls out a Chitwan based construction firm and names an individual, Hikmat Bista. The series, posted by TikTok creator @sushantbarakoti within the last day, frames the matter as a consumer warning.

The creator describes the company as “a biggest scam” and urges viewers to “be aware”, presenting the videos as public awareness content. Together, the three parts have gathered more than 140,000 views, with the first video alone drawing around 117,000 plays, about 2,079 likes, and 93 comments. Part two and part three have reached roughly 17,000 and 7,900 plays respectively. The Part-1 description notes that the company’s main TikTok page was set so it cannot be tagged.

What the Kalika Homes Controversy Videos Allege

According to the videos, the firm allegedly left a contracted house unfinished well past its promised completion date. The creator names “Kalika Homes and Design” and Hikmat Bista, warning viewers in strong terms. Kalika Homes and Design Pvt. Ltd. advertises on TikTok, offering full finishing house construction packages that its posts describe as 30 to 45 lakh packages, along with 2D and 3D design services and services described as “naksa pass dekhi ghar sampanna”, meaning from drawing approval to completed house. None of the videos present the company’s response.

A Commenter Shares a Detailed Account

One of the most detailed accounts appears in the comments on Part-3, written by a user identified as reenagurung546. The commenter claims that Hikmat Bista and Hari from Kalika Home, Chitwan, were contracted to complete her sister’s house within seven months, but nearly two years later around 10 percent of the work was still incomplete.

According to her account, the contractors became unreachable in the middle of the project, workers complained about not being paid, and at times work proceeded only about five days in a whole month. She says the family filed a police complaint and was advised to take the matter to court because a signed agreement existed. She warned other viewers to research construction companies and inspect their previous projects before trusting them.

Consumer Protection: Red Flags for Homeowners Hiring Contractors in Nepal

Whatever the outcome of this particular dispute, the Kalika Homes controversy highlights red flags every homeowner in Nepal should watch for before signing a construction contract. First, insist on a written agreement that spells out the project timeline, a payment schedule tied to construction milestones, and remedies for delays. Second, visit the contractor’s previous completed projects and speak with past clients before handing over money.

Third, never pay large advances upfront. Payments should follow verified progress on site. Fourth, keep written records of every payment, through bank transfers or signed receipts. Fifth, understand that a signed agreement is a legal document. If a dispute arises, it is the courts that will decide the outcome, as reportedly happened in the case described above.

The Kalika Homes controversy has also renewed discussion about how Nepali homeowners vet builders before signing contracts. Readers can find more construction industry coverage on Eve Construction News, while the original video series was posted on TikTok under the hashtag #kalikahomecontroversy.
