Betrawati Bailey bridge traffic is officially on the move. Minister Sunil Lamsal announced on the morning of October 11, 2026 that vehicles have been operating over the Betrawati Bailey bridge since early today, restoring the main road connection between Nuwakot and Rasuwa.
The river crossing at Betrawati had been the critical missing link in the corridor since the Bhotekoshi flood earlier this year, when surging water damaged the road and left Rasuwa disconnected from the national highway network. With the temporary steel bridge now carrying vehicles, the district regains its principal surface route for passengers, freight, construction materials and everyday supplies.
The opening caps a fast-moving sequence of work at the site. Installation of the Bailey bridge was completed earlier this week after crews worked through the night to assemble the steel truss, and the bridge was then launched across the river. Once the spans were in place and the approach sections finished, engineers opened the crossing to vehicles this morning.
The Betrawati crossing is one part of a wider restoration effort along the corridor. A temporary track between Galchhi and Betrawati has been keeping limited movement possible, while work on the bridge at Syafrubesi is still expected to gain speed in the coming days. Officials say full restoration of the corridor will take continued effort through the weeks ahead.
Betrawati Bailey bridge traffic: why it matters
For now, drivers using the route are advised to follow on-site traffic management at the bridge approaches, where crews are still finishing ancillary works around the crossing.
For residents and businesses in Rasuwa, the reopening is more than a construction milestone. The district depends on the road for food and fuel supplies, for the movement of hydropower project equipment and materials, and for tourism traffic heading toward Langtang. As Betrawati Bailey bridge traffic builds through the day, supply lines that were stretched thin should start to normalize. The minister said the disaster is not over and that many restoration and reconstruction works still remain, calling it a national responsibility to complete them together.
What happens next
Attention now turns to the remaining weak points on the route, including the Syafrubesi bridge work that officials want to accelerate, and to permanent repairs where temporary tracks and Bailey structures are holding the line. Authorities are expected to keep monitoring the Bhotekoshi river stretch during the post-monsoon period, when water levels can still rise quickly.
