Beni-Tatopani Road Reopens After Kali Gandaki Erosion

The Beni-Tatopani section of the Kali Gandaki corridor has been reopened after erosion from the Kali Gandaki river damaged the road near the Rahughat Hydropower site, according to an update shared by Infrastructure Development Minister Sunil Lamsal on October 3, 2026.

The minister said the ministry’s division team restored the damaged stretch and is now clearing landslides and obstructions toward Tatopani to keep traffic moving smoothly. He added that the Tatopani to Jomsom stretch currently has no obstructions.

Earlier the same day, the minister had reported that track-opening work on the flood and landslide damaged Beni-Tatopani section was moving at full speed. That post said work near the Rahughat Hydropower site had been blocked after floods washed the road away, with no progress for three days, and that the ministry’s facilitation restarted track opening on Saturday morning, which also made it easier to bring in construction equipment.

That earlier update described heavy damage along the section: two spots at Ratopani and one near Bhirkate where the road was completely destroyed and not even walkable on foot, about 100 metres of road fully washed away near Begkhola, and a major landslide at Baiseri where a slide had occurred before. The minister said the aim is to make the Beni to Tatopani section passable within about seven days.
