The 12-wheeler container trucks are now moving regularly, marking the return of heavy freight on a route that had been cut off by flooding in the Kaligandaki River.<\/p>\n<p>The Kaligandaki floods had blocked the road, severing the overland connection between Beni in Myagdi and Jomsom and upper Mustang. Road crews cleared the obstructions and rebuilt the damaged stretches, finishing the reconstruction ahead of the planned schedule.<\/p>\n<p>Mountain highways in Nepal are frequently damaged during the monsoon, when swollen rivers wash away road sections and trigger landslides. The Beni-Jomsom-Korala corridor follows the Kaligandaki valley, where the river runs close to the road in several stretches, making it especially exposed during heavy rain. With that section complete, the full Beni-Jomsom-Korala alignment is passable for heavy vehicles again.<\/p>\n<p>Container trucks with 12 wheels are among the heaviest vehicles using Nepal&#8217;s mountain highways, and their return is the clearest sign that the road has been restored to full capacity. Lighter vehicles typically return first after a clearance. In his announcement, the minister noted that the reconstruction work was completed ahead of the scheduled timeline and transport was successfully brought back into operation.<\/p>\n<p>Monday&#8217;s formal opening is expected to mark the full return of scheduled services on the route.
