A repaired one-kilometre alternative road from Ghatbesi to Galaundi was already carrying small vehicles, keeping local movement alive while the main highway section remained closed.<\/p>\n<p>Back-cutting is a standard emergency technique on hill roads. Excavators cut into the stable inner slope to create a new running surface when the outer edge of the road has slipped away.
