With the end of the works now in sight, the crossing is expected to resume its role as a direct link between the two districts, ending the detours and delays that road users have faced while the filling works continued.<\/p>\n<p>The final metres of embankment work are among the most important in any bridge project. The upstream filling forms the approach that carries vehicles onto the bridge, and it must stand up to river currents as well as the repeated loading of trucks and buses. Engineers typically place and compact such material in layers, checking levels and formation as they go, so that the approach does not settle or wash out once traffic begins to use it.<\/p>\n<p>The Maldhunga bridge filling has been closely watched because every metre of approach embankment brings the Parbat-Baglung crossing closer to carrying traffic again. Heavy plant has been working on the upstream side to place material, spread it and compact it to the required formation level before the final checks and the opening to traffic.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_the_Parbat-Baglung_connection_matters\"><\/span>Why the Parbat-Baglung connection matters<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>For residents and businesses in Parbat and Baglung, the bridge is far more than a river crossing. It is a key link in the regional road network of western Nepal, used by daily commuters, farmers moving produce to market, trucks carrying construction materials and vehicles delivering essential supplies. A direct, reliable crossing shortens journey times, reduces transport costs and gives emergency services a dependable route across the river, day and night.<\/p>\n<p>The minister&#8217;s two-day timetable suggests that site teams are now working at full pace to close out the last five metres of the upstream filling. Once the formation is complete and checked, the bridge can be handed over for traffic, reconnecting Parbat and Baglung without the long diversions of recent weeks.
