The Dumre Besisahar Chame road reopened to traffic at Rambazar after crews cleared a landslide that had blocked the Besisahar-Chame stretch, Infrastructure Development Minister Sunil Lamsal announced on Wednesday. Clearance work is continuing at multiple points from Timang to Koto as the ministry pushes to restore the full route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The minister gave a location-by-location account of the operation. At Papharkhet, where cutting into local land was necessary and compensation had become a sticking point, the issue was resolved in coordination with the local level and the district administration. At Khotro, where the road was completely destroyed, crews are cutting back from behind the damaged section and building a retaining wall, with traffic expected to resume there by evening. Near Khotro’s cliff, blasting is being prepared in coordination with the Nepali Army.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Garchhap, removal of accumulated mud and landslide debris is still underway. Wooden bridges washed away by floods are being bypassed with diversions, and the ministry said it was working to have the Dumre Besisahar Chame road reopened in full by Friday (October 2).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The road is the lifeline to Manang district and the gateway for the Annapurna Circuit, one of the world’s best-known trekking routes. Every monsoon, its steep, river-hugging stretches are hit by slides, and this year’s continuous rainfall damaged it at several points between Besisahar and Chame. The phased approach to getting the Dumre Besisahar Chame road reopened reflects standard triage: restore the easiest blocked points immediately while heavier engineering goes into the fully destroyed sections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The involvement of the Nepali Army for blasting near Khotro underlines how severe that section’s damage is. Retaining walls and diversions are temporary stabilizers; permanent restoration of the washed-away stretches will require fresh investment once the monsoon fully retreats. For Manang’s residents and the trekking industry, even a few days of closure choke off supplies and tourist movement, which is why the ministry set the Friday target for full operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
