The update, shared by Minister Sunil Lamsal on the morning of October 31, 2026, Nepal time, reports that traffic has resumed on sections of the Kaligandaki Corridor, the Nagma-Gamgadhi road and the Prithvi Highway. The reopenings follow the previous night’s blockages, which had interrupted travel on several routes and required urgent clearance work.

Table of Contents

Toggle

Where rain blocked roads reopened

Why these routes matter

What happens next

Where rain blocked roads reopened

On the Kaligandaki Corridor, work under Road Division Palpa restored movement in two stages. Traffic resumed from the morning on the Rampur Municipality-1 section in Palpa. Traffic on the Rakse section in Kaligandaki Rural Municipality-2, Gulmi, resumed from the afternoon. The minister’s update lists these sections among the rain blocked roads reopened on October 31. Together, the two reopenings restored passage along parts of the corridor that had been cut off by rain related slides and debris.

On the Nagma-Gamgadhi road, Road Division Jumla cleared mud and debris deposited by rain at the Talcha section. The road is now fully operational from the afternoon, a change that matters greatly for people travelling to and from remote communities in the Jumla and Humla region, where alternative routes are limited and road access can affect supplies, health travel and daily movement.

On the Prithvi Highway, the blocked section at Chalise Bhir has been opened, and two-way traffic is now running. It is another of the rain blocked roads reopened after clearance work on October 31. As a main Kathmandu to Pokhara artery, the highway carries a large share of passenger and freight movement between the capital region and western Nepal, so restoring two-way flow helps reduce delays for commuters, transport operators and goods heading to and from Pokhara.

Why these routes matter

The Kaligandaki Corridor is a north-south link, connecting southern plains areas with hill districts and onward routes toward the north. When a section is blocked, journeys can lengthen sharply and local communities can lose reliable access to markets and services. The Nagma-Gamgadhi road plays a similar lifeline role in the far west, serving remote Jumla and Humla access where road connectivity is already difficult. The Prithvi Highway, by contrast, is one of the busiest national corridors, and even a short closure can affect a wide area.

What happens next

Crews and equipment have been mobilized across the country to open blocked roads, according to the minister’s update. Work is expected to continue on clearance, inspection and safety assessment before conditions can be described as fully normal. Drivers should still expect changed road surfaces, possible single lane sections in affected areas and delays where clearance work is continuing, and they should follow instructions from road and traffic personnel on site.

For background, the previous night’s closures were reported in Nepal highways blocked by rain. A recent example of clearance work on another rain affected route is reported in Sandhikhark Gorusinige road reopened. The Rampur Municipality-1 section reopened in the morning, while the Rakse section, the Talcha section and the wider reopening work described for the afternoon followed later in the day. That staggered pattern reflects the time needed to reach each site, remove material from the road, check the surface and allow vehicles through safely. For travellers, the practical result is that the three routes are now passable, but conditions on the wider road network may still change if rain returns or if further inspection finds unstable material near a cleared section.

Several rain blocked roads reopened across Nepal on October 31, 2026, after road crews cleared landslides, mud and
