Minister Sunil Lamsal has carried out a post-Dashain field inspection of the flood and landslide damage caused by the continuous rains that began on Ashoj 9, touring the worst hit stretches of the Kaligandaki Corridor to take stock of the destruction. The Kaligandaki Corridor flood damage inspection took the minister across the region where swollen rivers and landslides have battered roads, bridges and other key infrastructure. During the tour, he inspected the flood damaged corridor, its bridges and other key installations, and personally assessed the scale of the damage. The visit marks one of the government’s first on the ground assessments of the disaster since the festival period ended.<\/p>\n

The minister’s itinerary covered Nisikhola Rural Municipality, Galkot Municipality, Jaljala, Rupse and Burtibang, where he walked damaged sections of the road network and bridges to see the situation on the ground and gauge the scale of the repair work ahead.<\/p>\n

The Kaligandaki Corridor and the districts of Parbat, Baglung, Myagdi, Gorkha, Lamjung, Manang and Kaski were badly affected by the floods and landslides. Vital road links were cut off, and bridges and other infrastructure were swept away or buried under debris.<\/p>\n

During the Kaligandaki Corridor flood damage inspection, Minister Lamsal also held direct talks with residents of the affected areas. He listened to their concerns about damaged roads, disrupted connectivity and the urgent need to reopen lifeline routes that communities depend on.<\/p>\n

The minister said the government is prioritising reconstruction and rehabilitation and is committed to restoring the damaged infrastructure stronger than before. He assured locals that the findings of the Kaligandaki Corridor flood damage inspection will guide the reconstruction programme, so that rebuilt roads and bridges can better withstand future monsoon shocks.<\/p>\n

The Kaligandaki Corridor is a strategic north south road corridor running through Beni and Jomsom toward the Korala border point with China, and its hill sections are routinely disrupted in the monsoon. Damage assessments carried out during the tour will now be consolidated, and reconstruction and rehabilitation works will be moved to the front of the government’s work programme. The goal is to ensure that the Kaligandaki Corridor flood damage inspection translates into swift and durable repair works on the ground, restoring safe passage along one of Nepal’s most important trade and connectivity arteries.<\/p>\n
