Drone Fuel Delivery Speeds Up Beni-Jomsom-Korala Road Reconstruction in Myagdi

The Beni-Jomsom-Korala road drone fuel delivery operation has put reconstruction back on a fast track in Myagdi district, after floods in the Kaligandaki River blocked the strategic corridor route and left machinery stranded without fuel.

Physical Infrastructure and Transport Minister Sunil Lamsal shared the update on his Facebook page on Sunday, October 5, saying reconstruction work on the blocked road section is now advancing rapidly, with fuel being transported by drone to the affected sites.

“With the support of the Nepal Army, about 400 litres of diesel were transported by drone from Baisari (Kunauto) in Raghu Ganga Rural Municipality-2, Myagdi, to Begkhola along the corridor road section,” the minister wrote.

The Beni-Jomsom-Korala road is one of Nepal’s key north-south corridors. It connects Beni, the headquarters of Myagdi, through Mustang’s Jomsom to the Korala border point with China. The route carries trade and tourists heading to Jomsom and Muktinath, and it supplies remote settlements in Mustang. When the Kaligandaki River floods and damages the road, the disruption is felt well beyond the damaged stretch.

How Beni-Jomsom-Korala road drone fuel delivery helps Mahabhir, Bhirkate and Pokharebagar

Fuel supply has been one of the main bottlenecks in the reconstruction work. With the road blocked, tankers cannot reach the sites and heavy machinery runs dry. The minister said that with fuel supply eased, road construction and maintenance work underway in the Mahabhir, Bhirkate and Pokharebagar areas can now move ahead effectively.

The operation is also a notable step for disaster response on Nepal’s mountain roads. Landslides and river floods routinely cut off road access in districts like Myagdi and Mustang, especially in the monsoon season and its aftermath, leaving equipment and materials stranded at damaged sites. Flying fuel to the work sites keeps reconstruction going while crews restore the road itself.

The Beni-Jomsom-Korala road drone fuel delivery follows a string of monsoon-season road disruptions across the region. The ministry has been working through reopening several blocked routes ahead of Dashain, the country’s biggest festival, when travel demand is at its peak. Earlier this month, the ministry also reopened the Beni-Jomsom section for Dashain travellers.

What happens next on the Beni-Jomsom-Korala road

The ministry’s immediate goal is to bring the Beni-Jomsom-Korala road back into operation as soon as possible. Continued drone-supported fuel supply, combined with earthmoving work at the damaged sections, will decide how quickly normal traffic resumes through the corridor.
