Pokhara airport RNP AR navigation system

Work on installing an RNP AR navigation system at Pokhara International Airport is moving ahead, Gorkhapatra reported on 16 October 2026.
RNP AR, short for Required Navigation Performance with Authorisation Required, is a satellite based approach procedure that lets suitably equipped aircraft and trained crews fly precise paths in and out of airports surrounded by difficult terrain. Pokhara sits in a valley ringed by hills, and low cloud and poor visibility regularly disrupt its flight schedule.
A working RNP AR procedure is expected to reduce weather related delays and diversions at the airport, which is a key gateway for tourists visiting the Pokhara valley and the Annapurna region.
The system forms part of the wider navigation and safety infrastructure being put in place at Nepal newest international airport.
